SAM SMITH was not the only artist to produce a theme for the latest Bond film, Spectre.

Last year Radiohead was asked to produce a theme for the film. The invitation, and the fact it was accepted, seems out of place for a band which manages to stay at the fringes of pop culture despite its popularity; a point not missed by the band.

“We were asked to write a theme tune for the Bond movie Spectre. Yes we were,” the band said on SoundCloud and Facebook.

“It didn’t work out, but became something of our own, which we love very much.”

The song would not sound out of place in the middle of Silverchair’s Neon Ballroom (though a little soft) while retaining a traditional Bond style.

Spectre was uploaded to SoundCloud by Radiohead an hour ago.

“As the year closes we thought you might like to hear it,” the band said.

“Merry Christmas. May the force be with you.”

You can listen to the song, as well as Sam Smith’s release, below.

Spectre was not the first song created for cinema by a Radiohead band member. Guitarist Johnny Greenwood and drummer Phil Selway featured in Harry Potter band Weird Sisters, while Thom Yorke produced a song for the New Moon (Twilight) soundtrack.
